Elder C. G. Charles was born in Dubbly, Louisiana and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He enrolled in and completed Detroit Bible College. As a young man, he served in his local church Youth Department, he was the local Sunday school Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and Workshop presenter. Elder Charles continued to work in his local church and then on the State and National level.
Elder Charles met and married Fannie Mae Monroe and to this union four children were added: Michael, Gena, Freeda and Roy. They are also the proud grandparents of 11 grandchildren.
In 1984, Bishop P. A. Brooks, Jurisdictional Prelate, Northeast Michigan, appointed Elder C. G. Charles as Pastor of Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. Pastor Charles’ vision became very clear to Tabernacle, which was to move the church forward into the 21st century. Pastor Charles wanted this church to become centered in the Lord, so he placed special emphasis on studying the “Word of God.” He wanted God’s precious people to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. Out of this vision, many ministries were birthed for the edification of the Church and the community at large. Recognizing God’s plan for the church is always larger than self, Pastor Charles established a CD ministry, revived the bible study, concentrated the church on giving, Christian Education Outreach, enlarging the Music department, establishing support groups, publications/communications, and a radio ministry to name a few.
As Pastor, Elder Charles served as President of the Evangelistic Department of NE Michigan. In 2005, Pastor Charles was appointed Superintendent of Grace District. Superintendent Charles continues to be active at the local, state, and national levels of the Church of God in Christ, participating in many ministries including being a member of the International Evangelist Board.
Superintendent and Missionary Charles work to help the community to know the Lord, and Tabernacle. The two believe that “if you continue to give to the community, your community will continue to give to you.”
